I will never hide my talents, if I am silent, I am forgotten. If I do not advance, I will fall back. If I walk away from my challenge today, my self-esteem will forever be scarred, and if I cease to grow even a little, I will become smaller. I reject the stationary position because it is always the beginning of the end. The above philosophy has played an important role in the shaping of my objectives and framing of my plans for the future.

I have been dedicated towards my studies right from my childhood. I secured 87% in Maths and science in my higher secondary certificate examination (10+2 pattern) XII Science, 2013. That opened up doors for me to secure admission in the Four year Degree Program of Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) at the prestigious Delhi Institute Of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research (DIPSAR), New Delhi, India which is one of the the top 10 pharmacy schools in the country. This marked the beginning of one of the most important phase of learning in my life. This course took me a step closer towards fulfillment of my goal of delving deeper into the world of science.

During my three years so far at DIPSAR, I have come a long way in expanding my horizons. After learning the basics of chemistry, pharmaceutics as well as other allied subjects such as human anatomy and physiology and, pharmacognosy in the first year, we built a solid foundation of Pharmaceutical chemistry and other core subjects like Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical technology in the following years. Out of the plethora of well-structured courses in Pharmacy, I also studied subjects such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, basic electronics and computer science, Mathematics as well as Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence and Pharmaceutical management.

I also undertook various courses relating to the field of clinical research to have a better understanding of the subject and simultaneously be better prepared for further studies in the field. This includes a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) offered by Johns Hopkins University (USA) and a Professional Diploma in Clinical Research from Catalyst Clinical Services (New Delhi, India). These courses explained the basic principles for design of randomized clinical trials and how they should be reported, the terminology used in clinical trials and the several common designs used for clinical trials, such as parallel and cross-over designs. They also explain some of the mechanics of clinical trials, like randomization and blinding of treatment, and how clinical trials are analyzed and interpreted and finally, the essential ethical consideration involved in conducting experiments on people.

My career aspirations have been influenced by fast development of clinical research organizations in India by virtue of large patient pool, low cost of doing business, availability of expert researchers, huge market opportunities and participation of foreign companies in advancement of the pharmaceutical industry. Considering the need for large number of skilled professionals for clinical trials as well as quality control in the industry and my interest in clinical research, I have decided to enroll for the course of regulatory affairs at your esteemed university.

The undergraduate course as well as the aforementioned courses have provided me with a strong base for further growth in my desired field. I would like to delve deeper into this field and its technical aspects completely. I hope to acquire the requisite professional skills and develop a thorough understanding of conduct of clinical trials and data analysis as well as various quality control processes employed in the industry. I wish to contribute towards these areas and indulge in research which ultimately should have a meaningful contribution to science as well as the pharmaceutical industry. I am confident that my academic capability and analytical skills coupled with my perseverance and single minded devotion will see me through to this goal. To this end, the first step is a sound graduate study.

Apart from academics I have always been actively involved in volunteering for NGO’s throughout my undergraduate studies. Throughout my first and second year, I joined ‘Becoming I foundation’, an internationally recognized organisation, as a volunteer and later as a project coordinator. For the first 10 months, I taught various sports such as soccer, kho-kho, dodgeball and even athletics to more than forty 4th and 5th grade female students. Every single student I taught to, secured some or the other position that year in the year-end athletic meet of the NGO. I had never been prouder in my life. For the next period of 10 months as a project coordinator, I taught music as well as essential life skills to the same demographic of students. They went on to perform a beautiful show for the audience in the NGOs annual showcase. Currently, I am volunteering as a social media head for the local chapter of ‘Leaders for Tomorrow’, a nationally renowned social organization, and my job with them is to make social change more appealing for college students and increase community involvement. Other organizations I’ve worked for include AIESEC and Indian International Society for Youth as a part of their respective organizing committees for showcases and seminars.

All this helped in developing my understanding of responsibility and has given me increased confidence. Working with the children in school has improved my interpersonal skills a lot. These internships required me to be self sufficient and manage myself, time and workload efficiently in order to produce work of a high standard which improved my organizational skills and work ethic significantly.

I believe knowledge is of no use unless you put it to practice. It is with the help of this course of regulatory affairs at your university that I think; I can enhance my academic career and subsequently apply my knowledge in the field. I am well aware that studying in America demands hard work, sincerity and punctuality for which I am physically and mentally equipped. The main aim in opting for an American standard of education is very high competence particularly in the field of medical product regulation and quality control as well as to avail the advantages of securing the best of knowledge and the opportunity of the best academic facilities and environment.

The distinguished faculty and excellent facilities at your university make its graduate program ideally suited to my professional goals. My desire to pursue further studies at USC is because it has the most dynamic atmosphere, which will shape me to be a thinker and a learner. The flexibility of the curriculum will give me the broad-based education that I need to widen the scope of my knowledge and skills. The diversity of the student body will open my mind to new influences, new ideas and new ways of doing things. The world is literally becoming a global village where opportunities for work are transcending physical space. The international education will give me the training and the caliber to meet the global clients. I look forward to being an active contributing member of the student community at your University.

I understand that M.S. culminating in a Ph.D. is very essential, henceforth my short-term goal is to do M.S in a good university. I am confident that my earnest aspirations of academic endeavors will become a reality by your kind consideration for my admission for masters program in regulatory affairs. I am confident you will find in me a person giving his best in all challenging environments utilizing my knowledge and resources for mutual betterment.
